Why does the trial exclude persons <60 years of age?

There are two primary reasons for excluding younger patients. First, patients under 60 years of age comprise a small percentage of the GWTG-AFIB population. Second, due to the question of interest in CHANGE AFIB, the study population must be at sufficient risk for cardiovascular events. While patients younger than 60 years of age do occasionally present with AF, they are usually not hospitalized and they have much lower cardiovascular event rates.
